ON INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY, ROSEN REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO OUR NATION’S MILITARY WIDOWS AS A CO-SPONSOR OF MILITARY SURVIVING SPOUSES EQUITY ACT
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement reaffirming her commitment to our country’s military spouses as a co-sponsor of H.R. 846, the Military Surviving Spouses Equity Act, bipartisan legislation that will help ensure the surviving spouses of military members are taken care of in the tragic event their husband or wife does not return from battle.
“In Nevada, 1 in 9 people are either active duty military or is a veteran who has served our country. That’s why it’s incredibly important that we do all that we can to help our military spouses. I am proud to have co-sponsored the Military Surviving Spouses Equity Act to ensure that those who have lost a loved one while serving our country receive the support they deserve.”
“To all the brave women who have had to say goodbye to a loved one, you are not alone and I will always fight to ensure that your strength, bravery, and service to our country is recognized.”
BACKGROUND: The Military Surviving Spouses Equity Act would end the so-called “widow’s tax,” a current policy that requires the surviving spouses of military members killed in the line of duty or from a service-connected cause to forfeit the Survivor Benefit Pension annuity.
