REP. ROSEN CELEBRATES SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY, ENCOURAGES NEVADANS TO SHOP SMALL DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON
WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement encouraging constituents to participate in Small Business Saturday. Falling between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and support the small, independently-owned businesses that help boost local economies in Nevada and across the country.
“Small Business Saturday gives us all an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and determination that goes into running a local business,” said Rosen. “Whether it is a family-run restaurant, an e-commerce store, or a brick-and-mortar retailer, small businesses employ hundreds of thousands of Nevadans and are and truly the backbone of our economy. I encourage Nevadans to support our small business community, so that we can continue to empower job creators and grow our local economy.”
BACKGROUND: According to the Small Business Administration, Nevada’s small businesses employed over 450,000 people or 41.3% of the private workforce, in 2014. Ahead of Small Business Saturday, Congresswoman Rosen has cosponsored several bills to help Nevada businesses continue to prosper. Rosen recently co-sponsored the Veterans Job Opportunity Act, a bill that would establish a small business start-up tax credit for veterans who create businesses in underserved communities. Rosen also cosponsored the Small Business Cybersecurity Enhancement Act, bipartisan legislation to help small businesses obtain the resources needed to protect them from cyberattacks.
Congresswoman Rosen calls on residents to share the small businesses that they love on social media using #ShopSmall and/or #SmallBizSat. Merchants and consumers can learn more about Small Business Saturday and how to get involved by visiting ShopSmall.com.
