REP. ROSEN JOINS REP. KIHUEN IN INTRODUCING AMENDMENT TO STRIKE FUNDING FOR YUCCA MOUNTAIN
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) joined Rep. Ruben Kihuen (NV-04) in introducing an amendment to strike funding for a nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain. Funding for the project is currently included in the Defense, Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, Legislative Branch, and Energy and Water Development National Security Appropriations Act, 2018:
“The Senate’s decision to exclude funding for Yucca Mountain in its appropriations bill is a move in the right direction, but our fight is certainly far from over. Since day one, the Trump administration and House Republicans have led a relentless and misguided push to turn Nevada into the nation’s dumping ground for nuclear waste. Reviving Yucca Mountain would be a waste of taxpayer resources and would threaten the health and safety of hundreds of thousands of my constituents living just 90 miles away from this unsafe site. I’m proud to fight with my colleague to put a stop to Yucca Mountain once and for all."
