ROSEN APPLAUDS FEDERAL GRANT FOR NEVADA H.A.N.D, CALLS FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR FY2018
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) applauded news of Nevada H.A.N.D. receiving an award of $523,333 in federal grant money for FY2017. Nevada H.A.N.D. is a non-profit which assists low-income individuals and seniors across the state with affordable housing:
“This announcement highlights the important work that Nevada H.A.N.D does for our communities in Nevada, which is why I was proud to lead a letter in the House requesting that funding be allocated for the following fiscal year, ” said Congresswoman Jacky Rosen. “After being hit the hardest during the housing crisis, Nevada is finally on the pathway to recovery. Programs like Nevada H.A.N.D help to develop and preserve affordable housing, revitalize and sustain neighborhoods, and create jobs in Nevada. I will continue to support legislation that helps Nevadans obtain access to affordable housing because everyone deserves a shot at the American Dream.”
Background: NeighborWorks organizations offer a range of housing assistance based on individual community needs, from homeownership counseling and education and down payment assistance to affordable multifamily properties that are assets to the community. Out of the funding that Nevada H.A.N.D receives from NeighborWorks, one third of funding goes towards assisting residents of Nevada’s 3rd District. Over the last four years, Nevada NeighborWorks organizations, including Nevada H.A.N.D. have provided homeownership counseling and education to 6,712 households, created 643 new homeowners.
