ROSEN APPLAUDS HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT GRANTS FOR SOUTHERN NEVADA

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement applauding the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for disbursing millions in Community Development Block (CDBG) Grants to Henderson, Las Vegas, and Clark County; millions in HOME program grants to Henderson, Las Vegas, and Clark County; and hundreds of thousands in Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) to Las Vegas and Clark County; and a $1,516,285 Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) grant to Las Vegas.
“With Southern Nevada’s critical needs for housing and community services for low-income families, these new grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development will provide our local governments with more resources to address these issues,” said Rosen. “I will continue to advocate in Congress for strong federal funding to support these types of housing grant programs that directly invest in and benefit Nevadans.”
BACKGROUND:
- The Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program provides annual grants to States and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. In March of 2018, Rosen joined her colleagues in sending a letter to House appropriators of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee requesting $3.3 billion in CDBG funding for FY19.
- The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities. In March of 2018, Rosen joined her colleagues in sending a letter to House appropriators of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee requesting $1.2 billion in HOME funding for FY19.
- The Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program provides funding to engage homeless individuals and families living on the street; improve the number, quality and operations of emergency shelters for homeless individuals and families; provide essential services to shelter residents, rapidly re-house homeless individuals and families, and prevent families/individuals from becoming homeless.
- The Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Program is the only Federal program dedicated to the housing needs of people living with HIV/AIDS. Under the HOPWA Program, HUD makes grants to local communities, States, and nonprofit organizations for projects that benefit low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families.
