WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) applauded NeighborWorks America for awarding a $439,444 grant to Nevada H.A.N.D, Inc. and a $244,000 grant to Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada, Inc. to support efforts to develop and preserve affordable housing as well as revitalize and sustain neighborhoods. Nevada H.A.N.D. is a nonprofit that assists low-income families and seniors with affordable housing.

“I’m proud to announce that Nevada housing nonprofits have been awarded grants totaling nearly $700,000 to expand local affordable housing options,” said Rosen. “Nevada ranks as the worst state in the nation for providing affordable housing to extremely low-income families, and we must do more to ensure families have the help they need to afford a home. NeighborWorks America’s latest grants to Nevada housing organizations are an important step in the right direction to addressing these problems, and I will continue to advocate for funding that helps families in Nevada receive much-needed housing assistance.”

BACKGROUND: In March, Rosen led a bipartisan letter with Rep. Ryan Costello (R-PA) to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Chairman Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL) and Ranking Member David Price (D-NC) urging them to fund the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation at $150 million in the Fiscal Year 2019 appropriations bill for the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, better known as NeighborWorks America. The letter was signed by a total of 74 Members of Congress from both parties. The Trump Administration has proposed cutting this program in its Fiscal Year 2019 budget.
