Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) joined 90 other Members of Congress in sending a letter to President Trump, demanding that he fix failed trade policies with China. The Congresswoman released the following statement upon sending the joint letter:

“After campaigning for months to get tough on China, promising to label China as a currency manipulator on day one in office, and pledging to make better trade deals for American workers, President Trump has yet to deliver on many of his promises on trade,” said Congresswoman Jacky Rosen.

“We are almost 100 days into Donald Trump’s presidency. The American people want us to have trade policies that support American jobs and demand a level playing field with our international trade partners.  There has been a lot of talk.  Now there must be action.”

Members also called out President Trump for not indicating his plans with respect to the United States-China Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIT). The BIT would make current China trade issues significantly worse. It replicates key aspects of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), two agreements that President Trump castigated as damaging to American workers and the economy. The BIT would include the investor protections found in NAFTA and the TPP that make it easier to offshore American jobs, and it would give Chinese firms, including state-owned enterprises, broader rights to purchase U.S. firms, land, and other assets.
