ROSEN SIGNS DISCHARGE PETITION, DEMANDS VOTE ON BIPARTISAN DREAM ACT
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) signed a discharge petition that would force a vote on H.R. 3440, the bipartisan DREAM Act of 2017. Congresswoman Rosen is a proud co-sponsor of the bill. If the petition is signed by a majority of Members, the House would be required to bring this legislation to the floor for immediate consideration and vote on it.
“DREAMers reflect the very best of our American values and principles, and their lives shouldn't hang in the balance because of Washington gridlock,” said Rosen. “President Trump’s decision to end DACA was cruel and shortsighted, and now it's up to Congress to act quickly and across party lines to fix this mess and provide permanent relief to our nation's DREAMers. I’m proud to be fighting for a real solution for DREAMers by demanding this bipartisan bill come to the floor immediately for a vote.”
BACKGROUND: Earlier this month, the Trump Administration announced its shameful decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program with a six-month delay. The DREAM Act of 2017 is bipartisan, bicameral legislation that would permanently protect DREAMers from deportation. It was originally introduced by Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL).
