Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement in response to Congressional Republicans’ failure to prevent a government shutdown at midnight, January 20th. Rosen will be donating her pay to La Alianza Comunitaria Transnacional, an organization that helps young undocumented immigrants apply for DACA.

“Republicans have control of the White House and both chambers of Congress, they refused to work with Democrats on a long-term spending bill, and now they have failed the most basic responsibility of keeping the government open and running,” said Rosen. “Instead of fully committing to the budget process, Republicans decided to hold our nation’s Dreamers hostage and use children who rely on CHIP as political pawns. There are bipartisan solutions right in front of us to fund CHIP and protect Dreamers, but Republican leadership is manufacturing a political crisis. This charade is unnecessary and costly, it degrades our military’s readiness, and it will hurt hardworking families in my district and across the country.”

BACKGROUND: Congresswoman Rosen is a co-sponsor of the No Government, No Pay Act, which would prohibit Members of Congress from getting paid during a government shutdown. Congresswoman Rosen is also a lead sponsor of the bipartisan SHIELD Act (H.R. 1536), which would ensure compensation for servicemembers and federal law enforcement personnel in the event of a government shutdown or a default on the nation’s debt.
