ROSEN STATEMENT COMMEMORATING THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE AMERICAN DISABILITIES ACT

July 26, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement on the 27th anniversary of the American Disabilities Act, landmark legislation that extended civil rights protections to millions of disabled Americans:

“Twenty-seven years ago today, the American Disabilities Act was signed into law extending civil rights protections to millions of Americans with disabilities, requiring private employers to provide reasonable accommodations to disabled employees, and imposing accessibility requirements on public accommodations. Not only did its passage achieve the just goal of extending protections to a group that had long been marginalized, it strengthened our economy by unleashing an incredibly talented group of people to fully participate in the private and public sectors. We all must continue to build on our progress by working to protect the civil rights of disabled Americans everywhere.”
