Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement to commemorate Juneteenth Independence Day, a day of national celebration as the historical end of slavery:

“Today, we stop to recognize the moment we closed on a dark and agonizing chapter in American history. Juneteenth represents the day the last enslaved African Americans were finally emancipated in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, after waiting over two years following President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. Today and every day reminds us that although the struggle for equality and justice moves slowly through the wheels of time, we must continue to see them through so that our dream for a more perfect union can someday become reality.”
