ROSEN STATEMENT ON STEVE BANNON'S REMOVAL FROM THE NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL'S PRINCIPALS COMMITTEE

April 5, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement in response to news of Chief White House Strategist Steve Bannon’s removal from the National Security Council’s Principals Committee:

“Steve Bannon has no experience or background in national security matters and should have never had such a role on the National Security Council to begin with. It is inappropriate for a political adviser to shape our country’s most sensitive national defense and foreign policy. That’s why I signed onto legislation calling for his removal. I hope the Trump administration understands that sensitive decisions regarding our national security are nonpartisan and should only be made by experienced senior military officers, intelligence officials, and those who are qualified for the job.”

Congresswoman Jacky Rosen is a co-sponsor of H.R.804, the Protect the National Security Council From Political Interference Act of 2017, legislation to protect the National Security Council from political interference and partisan politics.
