ROSEN STATEMENT ON TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S DECISION TO END DAPA PROGRAM

June 16, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents or DAPA, an immigration policy to protect parents with U.S. citizen or permanent resident children from deportation:

“Since the start of this administration, President Trump has turned to incendiary and hateful rhetoric to paint the entire immigrant community with a broad stroke, even attempting to punish cities like Las Vegas for protecting families from being torn apart. Sensible policies like the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents or DAPA help bring undocumented immigrants out of the shadows, allowing immigrants to contribute to local communities and pay taxes, and giving families temporary reprieve from the daily fear of deportation. Today’s action by the President is yet another step in the wrong direction.  For years, both sides of the aisle have made calls for bipartisan action on immigration reform. I hope that the President realizes that his actions and rhetoric only make it all the more difficult for Congress to work together on this issue.”
