ROSEN VOICES OPPOSITION TO TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S TRANSGENDER MILITARY BAN AFTER SIGNING LETTER URGING DOD NOT TO COMPLY

August 24, 2017
Press Release

LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s plans to follow through on a ban of transgender Americans from military service:

“President Trump’s decision to proceed with this discriminatory ban on transgender Americans serving in the Armed Forces goes against our country’s core values and our commitment to full equality. At a time when we need to be increasing our military readiness, President Trump has decided to institute an unsound policy based on prejudice that will only jeopardize our national security. Citing false excuses that have already been debunked, President Trump is inserting his bigoted views into decisions about military personnel and attacking individuals who want to put their lives on the line to serve and protect this country. I strongly oppose this decision and have signed a letter to Defense Secretary Mattis urging him not to comply with this discriminatory policy.”
